Applying for the Certificate

Applying for the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in WGS

Apply for the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies through Apply Yourself, the Graduate School’s online application system.

The deadline to apply for Fall 2016 has been extended to June 15, 2016.  The application must be completed, application fee must be paid, and all supporting documents must be submitted by June 15 for your application to be considered for Fall 2016; WGS cannot view your application or make an admission decision until your application is complete and the processing fee has been paid.

If you have missed the June 15 deadline, you may apply for Spring 2017. The deadline for Spring 2017 will be October 1, 2016.

To complete your application, you need to submit the following:

Graduate School Requirements:

  • Application processing fee (currently $65). If you are applying for the PBC in WGS at the same time as you are applying to a graduate program (MA, PhD, or other) in another department, you only need to pay one fee. If you apply to the PBC in WGS later, you will have to pay an additional application fee.
  • Official transcripts from prior colleges and universities. Your application will be processed more quickly if your institutions upload these to Apply Yourself.  Alternatively, your institution can mail them to:

The Graduate School

The University of North Carolina at Greensboro
241 Mossman Building
1202 Spring Garden Street
Greensboro, NC 27412

  • Three recommendations from professors (preferred) or employers. Enter your recommenders’ e-mail addresses in Apply Yourself, and they will receive a link to an online form; they will also be able to upload a letter.

If you have recently applied to a graduate program in another department, you should be able to use the transcripts and letters from that application for your PBC application. The letters must be less than one year old, or the Graduate School will need to e-mail the recommenders to ask permission to re-use them. Contact our admissions specialist in the graduate school to arrange this.  At least one of your letters should specifically address your interest and experience in WGS.

Women’s and Gender Studies Additional Requirement:

  • A personal statement explaining how the WGS Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program aligns with your personal, academic, and/or professional experience and goals.

Please note that in the online application system, the boxes for Transcripts and Recommendations will be colored in when those documents have been entered. Blank boxes indicate an incomplete application–double check with your institutions or recommenders to make sure the information has been sent.

International students have additional requirements. Please see the Graduate School International Applicants page for further information, as well as the International Programs page for international students and scholars.
