Queer Crossroads

Queer Crossroads

Posted on 11/01/2016

The Women’s & Gender Studies program and Queer Student Union will be co-sponsoring a panel and open discussion event titled Queer Crossroads: Intersections between Queer Theory and Queer Activism. The event will be held on Tuesday, November 1st at 6:45 to 8:45 PM in the School of Education Building, Room 120.

This discussion will cover the often debated “academic-activist divide” in the queer thinking, and will address questions about academic and activist work into one another, how the two constantly inform one another, and what can be done to challenge institutional structures (such as the university and non-profit complex) that work to and benefit from queer academics and activists being divided.

The event will open with a panel discussion between individuals working in and between these fields on the issues surrounding the academic-activist divide, followed by time for audience questions and discussion.

The panelists are:

Zachary Johnson – WGS MA Program
Morgan Carter – WGS MA Program
Caitlin McCan –  WGS MA Program
Lucia Sedda – Defund Racism
Carly Springs – Defund Racism

This event is a great opportunity to engage in a critical and much-needed discussion about how academics and activists employ queer theory in their day-to-day lives and how the work they do can contribute to important resistance projects.

We hope to see you there!
