The Women’s and Gender Studies Program presents the Dylan Rose Kadis and Eloise Hall Kadis Women’s Lecture Series. The event will be held on Wednesday, September 26th at 4pm in the EUC Auditorium and will feature Guest Speaker Nalo Hopkinson.

The title of this year’s lecture is “We’re Here, Too: Feminism in Science Fiction and Fantasy.”

“While there’s still some truth to describing the field of science fiction as a boys’ club, doing so only contributes to rendering invisible the vibrant contributions of women and other underrepresented communities to science fiction. The author will discuss what it’s like to live and work in science fiction as a multiply marginalized woman of colour.”

Dr. Hopkinson (UC Riverside) is an innovative and acclaimed writer and editor. She is the author of a number of science fiction and fantasy novels, including Brown Girl in the Ring and Midnight Robber, and her work often draws on Caribbean history and traditions in opening up possibilities for imagining otherwise.

Reception to follow.
